About

The Nite Owl Barber Shop has been a fixture on Toronto’s Lakeshore Boulevard West since the late 1940s. The original barber came to Canada from Europe after the war and opened the shop at 3397 Lakeshore Boulevard West. When the original crew of barbers retired, the shop lay idle for almost 10 years until it was brought back to life by its current proprietor Brian Hurson. Years before, Brian served an old-fashioned apprenticeship in traditional barbering at the world famous Waldorf Barbershop & Shaving Saloon, back in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland.

The Nite Owl has always attracted considerable attention: its originality and authenticity make it something of a late ‘40s timewarp. Seventy years after the original shop first opened, the Nite Owl family has grown and there are now three shops: a new shop on Dundas West/Roncy North, Toronto (Dundas St. W & Bloor), a backroom bunker behind Coffee & Clothing (Gerrard and Carlaw), and the original and historic shop in Long Branch (Lakeshore & 29th Street).
